“Markets are the best choice for me.”
Fashion Designer Anna Rohr , KAPKA Berlin
Anna Rohr has her own fashion brand KAPKA Berlin and is living the dream of many fashion designers: She is selling her handmade hats on markets in Berlin. We studied fashion design at the same university in Reutlingen and when I went to Berlin a few weeks ago I met her at her market stall at the Flea Market on Boxhagener Platz. So I took the chance to interview her for the Business Story Magazine. Here are some outtakes of our conversation:
KAPKA on Berlin Markets
“Starting out, I tested a few different markets in Berlin. Now, I`ve got my stall at the Mauerpark Flea Market every Sunday. And sometimes I`m at some other market on a Saturday. (…) I tried selling my hats online – on Etsy and I even opened an online store. But I have closed it all down again because I didn`t enjoy selling online at all. It takes away all the fun when I can`t meet the clients and don`t get any feedback on the fit of the hat. I put a lot of effort into each hat and if I just send it out and don`t get any feedback, I won`t know if the size and color were right for the client. On the market, I see that every visitor to my stall tries on many hats until she or he finds the perfect colour and size. Depending on the fabric the size and shape will vary slightly. Therefore, the markets are the best choice for me.”

Anna Rohr hat ihre eigene Modemarke KAPKA Berlin und lebt den Traum vieler Modedesigner: Sie verkauft ihre handgemachten Mützen auf Märkten in Berlin. Wir haben zusammen an der gleichen Hochschule in Reutlingen studiert und als ich vor ein paar Wochen in Berlin war, habe ich sie an ihrem Markstand auf dem Flohmarkt am Boxhagener Platz getroffen. Da habe ich sie spontan für das Business Story Magazine interviewt. Hier sind ein paar Auszüge aus unserem Gespräch:
KAPKA auf Märkten in Berlin
“Anfangs habe ich noch verschiedene Märkte in Berlin ausprobiert. Jetzt ist es eigentlich nur noch der Mauerpark-Markt an jedem Sonntag. Und manchmal auch noch samstags hier und da ein Markt. (…)Ich habe auch mal versucht, meine Mützen online zu vertreiben – über Etsy und ich hatte sogar einen Onlineshop aufgebaut und eröffnet. Aber ich habe das dann auch alles wieder geschlossen, weil mir das einfach keinen Spaß macht. Es nimmt mir komplett den Spaß, wenn ich die Kunden nicht sehe und kein Feedback darüber bekomme, wie ihnen die Mützen passen. Mit jeder Mütze gebe ich mir ja Mühe und wenn ich sie dann einfach irgendwohin ins Leere schicke und kein Feedback bekomme, dann weiß ich nicht wie Farbe und Größe gepasst haben. Auf dem Markt sehe ich, wie viele Mützen jeder durchprobiert, bis sie oder er die perfekte Farbe gefunden hat. Je nach Stoff weichen auch Form und Größe leicht ab. Deswegen bleibt einfach erstmal nur der Markt.”
